Loc8 began in 2014 with a locally built software idea. When the cost of connectivity became the barrier to participation and growth, the company chose to address the infrastructure underneath.
Today, Loc8 is a Namibian open-access wholesale telecommunications and enablement company, helping operators, digital brands, ISPs, enterprises and institutions build on one shared platform.
Our story
Loc8 began with software designed to connect people and businesses. The experience showed that lasting digital access depends on the infrastructure underneath. That insight changed the direction of the company.
Loc8 began as a Namibian software development company focused on helping local businesses, communities and customers connect and participate in the digital economy.
Its mobile and geolocation platform was designed to bring businesses closer to nearby customers and create more accessible pathways for SMEs, SMMEs, underserved communities and financial-service providers.
Loc8 won first prize for its locally developed mobile platform.
Absorbing the cost would weaken the business. Passing it to customers would make the service less accessible.
Neither option solved the problem, so Loc8 chose to address the connectivity foundation itself.
Loc8 entered telecommunications licensing and advanced a model built around infrastructure sharing, wholesale access and customer choice.
Long-term spectrum-use rights established a foundation for wider coverage, additional capacity and the evolution of 4G and 5G services.
Loc8 now has the regulated and technical foundation for a shared wholesale platform that can support more providers across Namibia.
The next chapter is to extend reach, activate more services and deepen use of the same foundation.
